Oral History Program: Reproductive Experiences and Policy Memory

Beyond the grand narratives of national policy, the lived reproductive experiences of every individual form the most authentic fabric of our history. Over the past decades, China has undergone profound shifts in population policy; yet, the personal choices and life experiences tucked away in private memories often lack systematic documentation.

To address this, the New Generations Population Research Institute is proud to launch the “Reproductive Experiences and Policy Memory Oral History Program”. We invite the global Chinese community to share their authentic narratives regarding fertility, family, and policy changes. We believe that by preserving these invaluable first-hand accounts, we can provide a vital foundation for demographic research and reproductive ethics, ensuring that every individual voice is seen and remembered within the flow of history.

Series Interviews: Demographers on the Past, Present, and Future of Family Planning

This interview series aims to systematically review the historical context of population policies through in-depth dialogues with esteemed scholars. We invite experts in demography, sociology, and public policy to reflect on the profound impact of past decades’ policies on individuals, families, and society. Together, we analyze the challenges of the current demographic transition and explore pragmatic solutions for the future. By intertwining professional perspectives with oral history narratives, we strive to provide a multi-dimensional academic interpretation of this significant historical process.
